We believe the things we bring into our homes should carry meaning. Knowing who made something, how it was made and where it comes from matters just as much as the finished object itself.

The Makkist connects people with independent makers across the UK, supporting slower ways of making, local economies and skills rooted in both tradition and experimentation.

WHY I STARTED THE MAKKIST

I’ve always been a maker. My background is in architecture and printmaking, but over the years I’ve tried my hand at all sorts of craft skills. Enough to understand the time, patience and skill it takes to really master a craft.

In a world where so much is designed to be produced quickly, cheaply and at scale, I think there is something increasingly valuable about things made by human hands. The knowledge behind them, the years spent mastering a process, the small imperfections and decisions that make each piece individual. These things have value.

I started The Makkist because I wanted to create a place that celebrates that value, and makes it easier to discover and support the people keeping those skills alive.
